If you like funny books, give Wayside School Gets a Little Stranger a try.

This hilarious book is written by Louis Sachar, who also wrote Holes and the Marvin Redpost books.
Here is a short book talk by "Strawberry" to give you some idea of what the book is like.
*
This is the third book in a series, and you should probably read the other books first - Sideways Stories From Wayside School and Wayside School is Falling Down.
You might enjoy watching a reader's theater of one of the chapters from Sideways Stories From Wayside School. It is read by some of Sheriff Salsich's former cowpokes.
*
Have you read any of the Wayside School books? If so, what was a part that you really liked?
Can you think of other wacky books that people might enjoy?

Dear RR buddies,
ReplyDeleteI thought the video was fabulous! I was flabbergasted by how well the student spoke.
If you like wacky stories, you might like My Weird School by Dan Gutman. In those books the teachers are also strange.

Dear RR buddies,
ReplyDeleteI thought the video was great! The girl did a really good job at speaking clearly to the person watching the video.
I have read Wayside School Gets a Little Stranger and have read another one of Louis Sachar's books called Wayside School is Falling Down and it is funny! In the last chapter cows invade Wayside School!

Dear Strawberry,
ReplyDeleteI loved your book recommendation. I have read all the Wayside School book and I love every little bit of every one!
My favorite part of the books was when Louis the yard teacher had a package for Mrs. Jewels. It was a very heavy package and when he reached the top floor where Ms. Jewels teaches he knocked on the door. Mrs. Jewels had her class have a spelling test. Whoever won got to open the door. Everyone spelled things wrong! For example Mrs. Jewels gave Leslie the word "tired" and she spelled "sleepy" but Mrs. Jewels said she was correct.
You are right they are crazy books.
Your classmate,
Alexandra
Dear Maggie and friends,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great comment. I have read some of the My Weird School books like : Ms.Hannah is Bananas and many others. I have a question for you: Have you read any other of the Wayside School books yet?

Dear RR buddies,
ReplyDeleteFantastic video! Wayside School is one of my favorite series. They're very funny. My favorite one is Sideways Stories from Wayside School.
Louis sachar has written many great books like the Marvin Redpost series. If you've read Wayside School you'll probably like Captain Underpants. Its about a teacher who turns into a superhero and fights villians.

Dear Strawberry,
ReplyDeleteExcellent video! The Wayside School books are one of my favorite series. I like them because you never know what will happen next. The teachers are very funny and the things the students do always make you laugh.
If you have read the Wayside School books and have liked them, you also might like the Junie B. Jones books. They are about a girl who acts very strangely. They are not as crazy as the Wayside School books but you will probably like them anyway.

Dear Amanda,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great commett. Captin Underpants is a little more silly than the Wayside School books.I have a question for you: Have you read all of the Wayside school books yet? I anly read the one that I had in my book recommendation. But I bet all of the Wayside School books are good.Happy Blogging!

Dear Strawberry,
ReplyDeleteI loved your book report on the hilarious book Wayside School.
I agree with you that this is a wacky story. I have read the whole series of Wayside school. In this exciting book, my favorite part is when Dr. Pickle hypnotized the boy so whenever Lesie said pencil, her ears turned into candy.
I think the author of this book is very clever. The other books in this funny series are just as strange. I also think the characters do some weird things. In one story, cows invade poor Wayside School. I recommend the other books about Wayside School.

Dear Buckaroos,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the video. The book sounds exciting! I might get that for my saddlebag! The chapters sound silly and interesting. Strawberry, you spoke very clearly and at the right pace.
I have never read that book, but I would like to!
Warmly,
Gr♥ce
Dear Strawberry,
ReplyDeleteThat was a fantastic post. I had never heard about Wayside School Books before this post. Are all the chapters about the same people?
You asked if I know any other wacky books. I read a book called Catch That Pass and someone went through lots of training just to catch a pass. That is kind of wacky.
Sincerely,
Jaden
