  1. Dear RR,

What a fine, fine video, Sheriff Yollis and Sheriff Salsich!

We found a heading and subheading on p. 16 in our Social Studies book!

The heading was Kinds of Communities and the subheadings are The Places People Live, An Urban Community, Suburban and Rural Communities.

I learned that a suburb is a community close to an urban community. I learned that a rural area is far from a city.

In the video it looks like you two are in rural community.

  2. Dear RR,

I do declare that I love that video! You two sheriffs are quite a pair!

I found a fantastic text feature in one of the Social Studies textbook on p. 17. It is a picture of a map with a map key. There are three red dots to show types of communities: little dot = rural, medium-size dot = suburban, and the big dot means it is an urban area with more than 50,000 people! Whoa Nellie! That's too many people for me!

    I love learning!

  3. Howdy Sheriff Yollis and Sheriff Salsich,

Perhaps my favourite features in books have to do with formatting. Books use colour, bold text, italics and fonts of different sizes to draw the attention of readers. With these features and those mentioned in this marvellous video, readers are drawn into the book.

You may notice the spelling differences I use. In some books you might find, the spelling can be different. Australia and New Zealand use the English system of spelling...

    Favourite instead of favorite
    Colour instead of color
    Marvellous instead of marvelous

Therefore, it is sometimes a good idea to see where a book was made. That may explain some word differences. This information is usually at the front of a book.

I hope you enjoy your journey into non-fiction books. I know I have.

  4. Dear RR,

Good job making that video, it was great!

My favorite part of a book is the diagram. I also like the headings. My favorite kind of books are fiction books.

What is your favorite kind of book?

  5. @Sheriff Yollis and Sheriff Salsich,

I love your video and I learned many things about nonfiction books. My favorite was the diagram. I really like the diagram because the picture shows either how cute that animal is or how big it is. I really like to learn about the animals.

One nonfiction fact I learned is that we live in a Suburban city. What is the population of your city?

    Sarah
